Hi,

i'm using FreeBSD 2.1.0R as an internet server for a little software company
and want to know if there is an easy backup and restore procedure
in a case of e.g. a HDD crash.

we have a 1 GB SCSI IBM HDD and a 2 GB HP1533 DAT-Streamer

i tried backing up the whole HDD with tar --create --file /dev/rst0 /
and (after inserting a new HDD, installing a minimal FreeBSD system
[only bin distribution]) i tried to restore the whole thing with
tar --extract .
at this moment i was logged in as root.

after rebooting i wasn't able log in anymore :-((.

Can anyone help me in finding a working backup/restore procedure?

Thanx
