Have you double checked your IRQs and iomems for the cards with the
defaults.  FreeBSD will detect the card, but you will not be able
to use it if there are conflicts (or if the values are different 
from what the machine expects).  If you change the IRQ and/or iomem
on your card, you will have to use the -c option at the boot time
to change the defaults (initally).  I have a $25 Addatron NE2000 
compatable card that has worked great and never given me any problems.
