I installed it, checked the kernel and /dev for the apropriate entries and did a "dump 0f /dev/rst0 /". Then I did a "cd /tmp;restore -ivf /dev/rst0" and then "add *" from within restore. The dump worked. After using QIC-80 drives it was incredibly fast. The restore got 34MB into the tape and then the sh*t hit the fan. First, It reported data error reading tape. No problem, just let it abort. THEN I got bt0: not responding and attempting reset and then invoking debugger. THEN the kernel paniced. I'm currently in the process of putting my root partition back together again. :( Question, will a bad tape cause the tape drive to hang up which would cause the SCSI card to hang, thus the system? System: FreeBSD 2.1R (walnut creek cd) 486DX4-100 (generic MB) 32MB ram Buslogic BT545 ISA SCSI card Conner 4320 2GB DAT Toshiba 3401 CD Quantum 500 MB SCSI2 HDD (/usr) Thanks in advance Mark
