The two biggest problems with Linux as a boot server are the tftpd (most of which are broken) and bootparamd which is available from one of the BSD source trees. NetBSD/SPARC even successfully boots from Linux' broken NFS server (whereas SunOS does not). I have now successfully booted NetBSD/sparc and Sparc-Linux from my Linux server.
