Dunno how freebsd behaves but I ran BSDI on an AMD dx4/120 for months
(litterally thats how long it stayed up.) I've not noticed any problems.
There's a machine across the room from me that runs freebsd that seems
to be performing well too. (same setup)

My bet is cache or ram.
