Use the 'defaultroute' option. It : works for me. The default route does get set up. gated and routed apparently automatically poll the far end of the pt-to-pt link and never get a RIP response. They then tear down the default route. Beacuse of the fact that I cannot predetermine what IP address the pt-to-pt link will have at the ISP end, I can't figure out how to make gated ignore it. There is another system that will converse with me in RIP, but I loose connectivity with it.
