Well, it isn't in SCSI-2 mode now - for confirmation, if you've got it connected to a controller with good device reporting like a recent Adaptec or BusLogic, see what the controller reports for compliance level (SCSI-1 or SCSI-2). I've had no problems with Archive/Conner 4324NP/RP drives (one of these is in a 3.5" frame, the other is a 5.25") in case you want to exchange it.
