I have been trying to set up X-Windows on a NEC notebook with this video chip. Have tried all the combinations suggested by the files in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 with no success. The only spec I have for this notebook is: DotClock = 28.32MHz Horizontal Refresh = 60Hz 800x600 resolution with 256 color It was my fault not making a backup. I've had the X server running for a few weeks with a correct modeline (forgot how I came up with those number, trial and error, maybe, a good few days of tinkering). And then I did something stupid, and had to reinstall freeBSD. Needless to say, I conveniently forgot to save the XF86Config file. And now, I can't get it right again. Heeellllpppp, I am coughing blood here.
