We all know : that such a server is available at quite a reasonable price. : It would of course be nice if Matrox gave out more information about the : card. But it's not as if you currently couldn't use the card under Linux : at all. If it bothers you that there's no support for the Matrox card in : XFree86, write an angry letter to Matrox and go get another card. Ya know, I bought myself a nice cheap card (Trident 9440) when I built my system (did it on a very tight budget). I didn't know about linux or FreeBSD at the time, so wasn't concerned about compatibility. Since installing unix on my PC, I've become very concerned. My point is this: When we buy graphics cards, we get the server (driver) to use it under windows. Drivers are also generally availiable for win95, NT, and os/2. Wouldn't it be nice if the hardware manufactures would cater to those of us that spend the same $$$ for their cards? I'd love to see an X server that was developed in co-operation with the same techs that developed the hardware. When there's a problem with our display, we don't get on usenet, we pick up the phone, and call a 1-800 number. We paid anywhere from $100 to $1000 (more?) for something, it'd damn well better work to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. == Just a thought ==
