I can receive data as fast as the thin-net will go, but when I send, it chokes. Here is a ping from the BSD system to a good Sparc 20: bash# ping -s 2952 saturn PING saturn.baumgart.com (204.95.75.201): 2952 data bytes 2960 bytes from 204.95.75.201: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=9.083 ms 2960 bytes from 204.95.75.201: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=8.503 ms 2960 bytes from 204.95.75.201: icmp_seq=2 ttl=255 time=8.515 ms 2960 bytes from 204.95.75.201: icmp_seq=3 ttl=255 time=8.614 ms ^C --- saturn.baumgart.com ping statistics --- 4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 8.503/8.678/9.083 ms bash# ping -s 2953 saturn ========================================================== ok that looks fine, right? Notice I sent 2952 bytes. check this out. Notice the # of data bytes is just one more, 2953: ========================================================== PING saturn.baumgart.com (204.95.75.201): 2953 data bytes ^C --- saturn.baumgart.com ping statistics --- 31 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss bash# =========================================================== anything over and including 2953 bytes doesn't even make it onto the LAN! this includes FTP transfers and HTTP requests. The inbound is fast, I can send a large file TO the machine, but to send OUT from the thing I get this problem. This is a 3COM Etherlink Plus AMD 486-66 8MB RAM Conner SCSI HD Adaptec 28xx I'm thinking maybe it's the 3Com card. Can anyone shed any light on this rather serious problem? please cc to pieris@nova.pmb.net (my freebsd machine)
