The biggest problem with going the legal way (in my experience) is that a huge percentage of these schemes arise outside of the US. This is understandable given that a large percentage of those of us on the Net aren't American. Therefore, going to any American court to attempt to punish the originators is about as useful as the Communications Decency Act. Any American court is going to have as much effect on a foreign pyramid scheme as it would on a foreign porno site: zero.
