Date: 18 Aug 1996 10:30:08 +0500 Organization: Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Lines: 21 Message-ID: <4v69p0$in6@chenab.lums.edu.pk> NNTP-Posting-Host: chenab.lums.edu.pk Keywords: java, aix, netscape I recently downloaded netscape 3.0b7.x86-unknown-bsd and installed in on my 486 running FreeBSD 2.1. I set DISPLAY to an IBM RS6000 running AIX 3.2.5; the IBM has a 17inch high resolution monitor. I followed the steps for netscape install, i.e., setting NLS, XKeysymDB, and java_30. But when I load a html document containing an applet, netscape does not run java. The AIX machine has Motif 1.1 but that shouldn't matter (I think). Earlier I did something while installing netscape 3.0b6 which caused netscape to run java code but for the lifr of me I can't remember what I did. The question, thus, is: if netscape runs on FreeBSD machine with DISPLAY set to another Unix host running X windows, is there any particular setup that is required? -- Sohail Aslam Assistant Professor, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Lahore, Pakistan tel: 92-42-572-2670 fax: 92-42-572-2591 email: aslam@lums.edu.pk
