You need a news server. INN and Cnews are in the ports, it's basically a matter of personal preference which one you chose. Setting up a news server can be a bit hairy, so if one of your friends does already have some knowledge with either system, you might best pick this one. You also need a newsreader, but only after having the server up and running.
