I couldn't find any cue in any of the installation ] docs regarding packages that aren't included on the CD-ROM. Actually, packages are binary installation mechanisms. The binaries which are not allowed to be shipped on the CDROM (like the Netscape binary, which Netscape insists on distributing themselves) are pulled from the net on an "as-mneeded" basis at install time. This can get somewhat rough when they come out with a new version and delete the old binary from their site after the CDROM has been pressed (this is known to have happened in the Netscape case, actually). For these packages, then: 1) It is assumed you have a net connection 2) If the install fails, pull down the package from the FreeBSD FTP site instead of using the one on the CDROM. The packages on the FTP site are all kept up to date as possible; there will probably be a lag of no more than a week when a commercial binary is changed over (assuming you notify ports@freebsd.org).
