Hi,

For sometime I have been having problem to configure a modem for dial-in
purposes to my FreeBSD Pentium 120 Mhz. I have tried the followings;

   1. Enabled getty to sense the modem serial-port (at /etc/ttys) with
      appropriate speed found in gettytab. This was verified with
      ps -ax.
   2. Used tip to configure the modem to hayes standard and auto-answer
      mode.
   3. Tried various modems; US Robotics, GVC, Supra, VFast, Smartlink.

With the above, connection was actually established (known from a message
prompted "CONNECT 14400") but then system hang, the getty refused to
transform into login process. Did I miss out something?

Thanks.
