Does it work with a non-music CD-ROM? I would assume so based on the
output above. I've heard very few reports of any audio-CD tools
working with ATAPI drives. I can get mine to play using 'cdcontrol'
but that is all.
My preferred approach is to play music CDs on a real CD player, given
that the DACs in your average 70-quid CD-ROM drive are probably not
all that wonderful. Especially played through a Soundblaster and a
pair of overgrown headphones....
If you are feeling enthusiastic you could contact the maintainers of
the ATAPI code and work with them to improve the driver. Or buy a
SCSI drive and watch all your problems disappear... :) :)
Seriously though, if you can read your filesystem CDs you should be
pleased, and I'm sure the music support will happen eventually.
Cheers,
Scott
