In my part of the world ( Ottawa, Canada ) memory prices are *very*
low: 16MB/EDO/60ns/72pin are selling new for as low as $ 130.00 (Can).
Last year I would have been lucky to find a non-EDO 16MB SIMM for under
   $700 (Can).

They're low almost everywhere.

   * why prices are as low as they are.

Because the market finally collapsed on the companies holding the
price up, when there was an over-supply with not enough demand earlier
this year.

   * when, if ever, they will go up.

They should never go up. They've been held artificially high for
three years. This is electronic equipment. Size should always go up,
and price down.

Sales people I talk to say that memory prices are going up in September
but its their job to say that.

I would expect demand to dry up if price starts going up, causing
supplies to climb again, causing the price to fall again. I doubt
they'll go up. At worst, they'll probably stop going down for awhile.
