I have used a similar solution since the days of 1.1.5.1 with the help of a cheapo monochrome 12 incher and a free Hercules MDA donated by a friend. So, my box boots on the MDA mono screen. I log on, start X and switch on my 19 inch mono monitor. Using the dual-head XFree86 Mono server, this gives X on both monitors (until XFree86 3.1.2 that is. I still use 3.1.1 because later versions have a text-drawing bug in the Hercules code. Maybe 3.1.2F :) ). As you may have guessed by now, this requires patching in the FreeBSD boot code. I will be doing this for 2.1.5R during the next week. Let me know if you want the diffs Jim. - Arve
