The routed in 2.1.* FreeBSD is an old one, supporting only RIPv1. One should not really use it. The routed in 2.2-CURRENT is the latest one from V. Schryer (SGI) and supports RIPv1, RIPv2 and Router Discovery. It has more features and should run better. You can use it if you want to do RIP. GateD is a much more advanced routing daemon, supporting both IGP (Ripv1, RIPv2, OSPF) and EGP (EGP, BGP incl. v4). It is more configurable but its configuration is more complicated. If you do only RIP, I guess you could stay with routed (especially if you're running CURRENT). GateD, after the initial setup, is easy to manage. -- Ollivier ROBERT -=- Eurocontrol EEC/TIS -=- Ollivier.Robert@eurocontrol.fr FreeBSD FAQ: <URL:http://www.FreeBSD.org/FAQ/>
