I resently (well, 2 or three months ago) went from my put.it-together-yourself Linux installation to FreeBSD 2.1.0. I am now running 2.1.5-RELEASE. I am impressed by the package system and the ease of upgrading _the whole thing_ just downloading a couple of ctm/* files. Bravo! Well, to my problem: Ever since I changed to FreeBSD (i.e. the problem is there with both 2.1.0 and 2.1.5-RELEASE) at approximately 9/10 UUCP connections my modem wont hangup the line, and I get an endless ---- /var/spool/uucp/Log sample ---- uucico pingnet - (1996-09-06 10:05:21.55 1831) ERROR: Timed out when setting MIN to 1; retrying uucico pingnet - (1996-09-06 10:05:31.56 1831) ERROR: Timed out when setting MIN to 1; retrying ------------------------------------ in my UUCP log file. At this state the modem tty (/dev/cuaa0) is totally blocked. I can not kill uucico, I can not kill -9 uucico. The only way to get the modem to hang up is to press the reset button on my computer. Just rebooting is not enough. The modem is internal 19.200 bps V32te modem that looks to the system like it is a 16550A UART. It has always worked flawlessly with Linux. Is there some sort of flags or anything I can configure to get rid of this problem? I also notice that the transfer speeds are much lower than usual. Most of the transfers are around 500-600 bps opposed to 1300-1500 when I ran under Linux. Some file transfers are still at ``the old speed'', though. Strange. (Modem runs at 14.400bps due to my UUCP provider not having V32te modems...) I have tried modifying /etc/rc.serial (removing the # mark in front of the `modem 0' line), but it has not helped at all.
