i have exactly the same probelm with the same cd-rom, which controller
are you using and motherboard?
btw there's an interesting feature: if i turn on auto-config in bios
setup for the cd-rom and bios finds cd-rom i can't even boot freebsd, if
i turn it off there(it's still visible from dos or unix) everything
boots ok but there's a different problem occurs-i can't even install it
from a dos partition or hd, i get a message like (wrote -1 bytes instead
ot 1024 bytes)? interesting, isn't it.

max.
