Dunno what is ``loss of functionality'' for you. The DeskJet should work well, and if you install some nifty packages like Ghostscript and apsfilter, you get the ability to print all your files as PostScript output with a printer filter that automagically determines the file format, and converts it to PostScript as required. The ScanJet 4c is well supported by the ``hpscan'' program which can be found in the ports. I did some enhancements on it, and use it regularly at work. Pick `xv' (which is Shareware, so you gotta pay for it when using it commercially), xpaint, and the netpbm image format conversion and manipulation package -- this gives me a rather flexible environment for image processing. The only missing piece is OCR software. -- cheers, J"org joerg_wunsch@uriah.heep.sax.de -- http://www.sax.de/~joerg/ -- NIC: JW11-RIPE Never trust an operating system you don't have sources for. ;-)
