It's not strictly necessary for emacs, but the emacs in the packages is built with X11 support, hence you either need the X11 shared libs, or rebuild emacs without X support. The former probably requires less disk space. ;-) (If you extract them manually, you *only* need the X11 shared libs, not the entire X11 distribution.) > I heard that FreeBSD has support for pthreads?
