Distribution: inet look at the ftp man pages for your system and implementation for, as one guy already said, the SITE and QUOTE commands. they aren't always implemented. The SITE EXEC will let you run allowed commands. The set of allowed commands sometimes depends on whether you use anonymous logins or regular uid/passwd logins. See if you have an ..ftp/bin directory that some anonymous logins use to put allowed commands (you'd put yer tar/zip stuff in there as a homegrown command/script possibly). while these other guys are suggesting that you employ wu-ftp, ftpd, nftp, etc., you may not have that option and you may not be able to do it on all the platforms you need to be compatible with in your org. the stuff i suggested is pretty do-able with most stock ftp's. good luck -- G.T.
