I've checked and checked again and again. Scsi ``systems'' always
have about a 10% to 20% premium. For example check a Gateway
P6-200 system configured similarly, one with scsi, one with ide.
Difference about $500. For that price you can get 128 MB memory
instead of 64 MB.

For my money, unless the people who claim differently can provide
*specific* examples of *major* vendors who price scsi and ide
the same, I treat such claims as apocryphal.

Except that the *only* place you can get these seems to be from
mail-order places advertising in ``Computer Shopper''. You
can't go the the corner computer store and get them. You
*can* get an adaptec there. And that is important because when
the card is DOA (as was the NCR card I tried to install this
last weekend) you can go to the store and shake the sales droid
until a replacement falls to the floor. ;-)
