We use a homegrown perl script for just this.  There are other
awk and perl scripts around that do the same.  Our script
starts with auto.master and converts all the maps there, including
direct and host maps, into amd file maps.  I am about to
integrate this so the output is NIS maps that get automaticly
pushed out whenver the automount maps are changed.
