I have a FreeBSD box with an ethernet interface and a slip interface. I use the slip interface for my (analog) leased line (USR courier). My FreeBSD box uses IP nums 172.16.16.1 (sl0) and 172.16.16.2 (ed0). I have a SparcStation, which has an officially assigned IP number, which is 194.195.236.98. All I want to do is route add -host -interface 194.195.236.98 172.16.16.2 on the FreeBSD box. However, It complains with: <date> haiti /kernel: arp_rtrequest: bad gateway value (I also sometimes get a message complaining about arp llookup or so) I have tried many things, but could not get it to work. BTW: Earlier, ed0 and sl0 had the same IP num - no difference (what surprise). NB: I could do a setup like this on my SS - no problems there. I currently use FreeBSD 2.1.5-release. I had the same probs with 2.1.0-release and the 2.1.5 snaps I tested. I do not think I'm missing something obvious here, since it all goes well on the SS :-( Am I the only one who wants a setup like this?
