I have recently installed FREEBSD but am thinking about purchasing
BSDI UN*X.

Interest in BSDI was largely spawned by the positive review in Boardwatch
where BSDI 2.1 (?) and apache server were reviewed a couple of
issues ago.

It seems that BSDI product is recommended by the product itself along with
the excellent followup/service of BSDI tech reps.

Before I decide to buy though, I'm wondering if I could just as easily
run WWW server, offer ISP PPP dialin accounts and resell bandwidth
on dedicated 28.8 and up+ lines using FREEBSD as opposed to BSDI.

Can someone please comment on the major/key significant performance and
stability issues: what does BSDI offer versus FreeBSD/Linux that would be
critical to a ISP startup venture.

Background of System Administrator is: mainframe IBM/cobol/msdos
programming and analytical work...years ago. Am very rusty with getting
into nuts and bolts and new to UNIX...but am involved in learning basics,
and administration how-tos, TCP/IP Administration, etc.

Not to be crass, but are the differences in the product significant enough
to justify the $995 16 user license price versus the practically zero price
of the FreeBSD product?

Thanks in advance for advice and input from those who have chosen BSDI
over other products.

Sincerely,

Don H.
