Lines: 35 Message-ID: <51pdak$s1@ns1.win.net> NNTP-Posting-Host: dial-33.win.net X-Newsreader: Forte Free Agent 1.0.82 The hardware system configuration being the most likely cause of concern, is the difficult procedure in properly setting up the BSD install program to acomadate proper installation of the os and dist's. The system hardware is as follows, ISA-VLB main board, Intel 486 2-66 processor, Adaptec 2842AK host adapter, Maxtor 1240S scsi hd scsi id 0, Maxtor 540SL scsi hd scsi id 1, Micropolis 1926 scsi hd scsi id 2, these represent 1.2 gb=0, 540 mb=1, 2.1 gb=2., an 8bit I/O card, floppys= Teac 1.2 A, Teac 1.44 B drives, Plextor scsi cdrom drive scsi id=5 directly on hd 50 pin ribbon cable. Have noted the ease at which the install goes when on a machine with a single hard drive. When attempting to install on this machine, no matter what drive and or possible partition, it simply rejects the install after getting some ways into and suddenly dismounts then tells to pull floppy and to key enter then reboots. Present system software on this machine is dos and windows using all space except aprox 2nd half of 3rd physical hard drive, this space is 1036 mb's and in bsd's fdisk editor shows the correct 1023 cyl's with no aparent problems setting the partition, the host adapter ext bios translation is set to off so BSD is able to recognize the drive specs correctly. Acording to documentation I should be able to install to this drive and partition, but with some confusion regarding situations such as manually reconfiguring the boot blocks of which I would be completely lost as how to, I am in need of some serious help with installation, as I know very little about unix but am interested in learning, have purchased a few books only difficult to understand. I would hope if some well experienced person with Free BSD, reads this article, that they could shed some light on this situation with something that I can understand and would be of help in resolving this problem. Would be willing to trade phone numbers so as to possibly do a walkthrough on the installation and would be willing to pay for the help. Please contact via e-mail.
