when you start booting and you get the "boot:" prompt, type in a "-c". 
When you get to the next prompt, type in visual and you will be taken into
a utility for setting up your kernel specific to your hardware.  go to the
device for wdc0 and change it's settings to match those you pulled up in
msd.
