I know the feeling. My Mitsumi FX600S hanging off a SB Pro clone never gets found. It, the second IDE controller, does, just not the drive. I tried various combos in "boot: -c", tried the atapi.flp from 2.1.0R etc etc. I had to bite the chequebook and fork out for a s/h 1542CF and a new $150 NEC SCSI-2 CD-ROM. I don't regret it now, however. This way I also put to use a little 50Meg Quantum SCSI-2 I had hanging around, it now serves as a useful swap drive. And my, doesn't the tower look nice with 2 CD drives! (And Robert, if you don't already know, FreeBSD is quite happy to boot off IDE hd through Coherent Master Boot. Even OS/2 Boot Mangler launches FreeBSD happily.)
