ok, i finally applied both patches as suggested by people on this newsgroup, 
however, I am still getting multiple 'undefined symbol' errors.  Anyone have 
any more suggestions? 

EXAMPLE:

fstream.h:61: Undefined symbol `filebuf::~filebuf(void)' referenced from text segment
/usr/local/src/libg++-2.7.1/libio/fstream.cc:53: Undefined symbol `filebuf::filebuf(void)' referenced from text segment
