... and even then, the people at NSL (Network Systems Labs, Palo Alto)
had to make special customisations to Digital Unix (aka OSF/1) to allow
it to handle the large number of TCP connections and the rapid turn-over
of these connections.  Various other system 'tuning' was required as
well, and these have been fed back into the Digital Unix product.

It will be several years before NT has been placed under the same sort
and variety of load conditions that Unix (and VMS and MVS, and ...) has
been coping with.  Look for an "industrial strength" NT in maybe V5 when
people might deploy in on 10+ processor Alpha/P6+/PPC systems with
multiple GB of RAM and >100 GB os disk! [Digital is doing the 64-bit
port of NT for MS for just this reason]
