I tried booting from an ATAPI.FLP floppy, and I tried the : INST_IDE.BAT approach. As usual, I was able to get through all : installation menus, but the CD-Rom was not recognized when it mattered. I have the same problem with my system. My ATAPI CD-ROM drive on the 2nd controller is never recognized, and my CD-ROM is jumpered to be the slave device. Recompiling the kernel after installation has never changed this. Fortunately, I have a SCSI CD-ROM that comes to the rescue at times like this. If you have the disk space, you might try copying the relevant installation directories to somewhere on a FAT directory on your hard drive. You could then install from there. : Surely IDE Cd-Roms are common enough now that there is some solution : for this by now? Can someone help me? Thanks in advance! If there is a solution, I hope they can help us both. :-) K.S.
