I'm having problems with Net-BSD version 1.1 installation. I've been trying to install it on a 386 PC (Nokia MikroMikko 5) with a monochrome display and Quantum ProDrive LPS 270A hard disk drive. Before the BSD installation attempt, I had MS-DOS installed on the HD and I could boot from it fine. The BIOS-setting for the HD was set to "AUTO-ST506". I tried to install Net-BSD carefully following the instructions in the "INSTALL"-file. As I didn't want to preserve a MS-DOS-partition on the HD, I just booted the PC using the kernel copy floppy. When the installation program asked the type of the HD, I answered "ST506". When prompted, I gave the installation program all the data it wanted to know about the HD; the cylinder count, the number of sectors per track etc. Everything seemed to work just fine until I had copied the kernel from the floppy to the HD and tried to reboot from the HD. After the memory check, the BIOS told me that "Cannot use auto type on HD 0". So, I changed the HD BIOS-settings manually, booted from a MS-DOS floppy and re-partitioned and formatted the HD using MS-DOS format. After this I tried to boot the PC from the HD again. This time, after the memory check, the screen cleared and the text "Read error" appeared on the upper left corner of the screen. And still I could read, write and format the HD if I first booted from a floppy! Now I have just found a shareware program that could format the HD so that I managed to boot MS-DOS from it again. The AUTO-ST506 -setting still doesn't work. After this I've tried to install Net-BSD several times. I've tried HD types "ST506" and "IDE", but after every installation I'm just getting the read error when trying to boot from the HD. If you have any idea what might be wrong and what I could possibly do about it, I'd be really glad to hear about it! Thank you for your precious time! =))) - Jyri
