Yep. Our typical machine, at this point, is a P166 with 128mb RAM,
8gb of fast/wide Barracuda running on a 100mbit FDDI network
serviced by a DEC Gigaswitch, plugged into redundant T3's to the
net. I'd say each machine costs roughly US$4k. To switch to PP200
boxes would only add another US$400 or so to the total cost of each
machine. To go from 8gb to 20gb on each box would add another US$3k
to the price of each machine. So I could have a PP200 with 128mb RAM,
100mbit FDDI interface, and 20gb of fast/wide 7200rpm storage for
roughly US$7000. Show me another platform that offers that kind of
bang for the buck.

I stand by my original statement.

Best regards,

Chris

p.s. We use BSDI 2.1 on most of our boxes, but I'm experimenting
      with FreeBSD-current.
