Are you running 2.1 with all the required shots ?
We have a Compaq ProSignia 300 and 2.0 would only recognize 16Mb of the 32
intalled  until we added:

-memsize 32M
-pause 5
bios(1,0,0,0)/bsd

to /etc/boot.default.
