Lines: 30 Message-ID: <52sjn8$4oi@uuneo.neosoft.com> Reply-To: conrads@neosoft.com (Conrad Sabatier) NNTP-Posting-Host: 206.27.165.172 I strongly recommend, if xfm is included in the next release's packages collection, that xless be included, and linked to xfm as a dependency. By default, xfm invokes xless for the right button popup menu's View command. Come to think of it, emacs should me indicated as a dependency as well, as the Edit command calls it by default. As FreeBSD becomes more popular, more care should be given to making it easier for the first-time user (or out-and-out UNIX newbie). I was able to download xless and compile it myself, but I shudder to think of a novice undertaking such a thing (particularly as the source required a tweak or two here and there). I *love* FreeBSD. I very seldom use anything else now (occasionally switch over to Win95, mainly only to pay my bills through Checkfree under Quicken). Still, I think it *could* be made less intimidating for the new user. I realize you guys are mainly concerned with improving the code itself, but nonetheless, more time and thought could be put into the "packaging" (no pun intended), to make it more attractive to newcomers. I trust these suggestions do not offend. :-) -- Conrad Sabatier | conrads@neosoft.com | Eschew obfuscation. http://www.neosoft.com/~conrads |
