I have been trying to track down why I keep getting panic: can't mount
root
messages on a seemingly working machine when I noticed that a newly
installed
FBSD os failed as soon as I used the kernel config option -c to remove
conflicting drivers.
I am using a SCSI drive and CD that installs FreeBSD with no problem.
There
are no other OS's to worry about on the drive. I have rebuilt the kernel
to
remove unused drivers and it rebooted with no problem until I used the
kernel
-c option.
I can run FSCK from the fixit floppy with no problem and can mount the
drive
on /mnt with /dev/sd0 and all looks no problem.
I have booted using kernel.generic as well as kernel.old and it still
panics
cause it can't find root.
What should I do next?
The SCSI adapter is an Adaptec 1522 that is not a bus master device.
Should I
change it?
