Date: Tue, 01 Oct 1996 23:35:20 -0500 Organization: Sprynet News Service Lines: 28 Message-ID: <3251F105.6F2B@sprynet.com> Reply-To: dblizzar@sprynet.com NNTP-Posting-Host: dd71-064.compuserve.com Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.0b7 (Macintosh; I; PPC) I have been trying to track down why I keep getting panic: can't mount root messages on a seemingly working machine when I noticed that a newly installed FBSD os failed as soon as I used the kernel config option -c to remove conflicting drivers. I am using a SCSI drive and CD that installs FreeBSD with no problem. There are no other OS's to worry about on the drive. I have rebuilt the kernel to remove unused drivers and it rebooted with no problem until I used the kernel -c option. I can run FSCK from the fixit floppy with no problem and can mount the drive on /mnt with /dev/sd0 and all looks no problem. I have booted using kernel.generic as well as kernel.old and it still panics cause it can't find root. What should I do next? The SCSI adapter is an Adaptec 1522 that is not a bus master device. Should I change it? -- -- from Dave Blizzard VE3SVL ----------------
