You'll need to upgrade to 2.2 since SMP isn't supported in 2.1.5. 
Furthermore, you'll need to grab the CVS reposititory (or study the
CVSup configuration files and learn to use the "SMP" tag) and check out
code from the SMP branch onto your 2.2 source tree.  It's not on
2.2-current's "HEAD" branch.
