Any suggestions or thoughts would be : greatly appreciated. okay... since you're using a mixture of different size SIMMs, I would make certain that all of them are the same speed. If you're using different speed SIMMs, you're more likely to be asking for trouble. ;-)) I would try taking out every single SIMMs chip out, and leave only 4meg RAM SIMMs inside the computer, boot up the computer and see how that works.
