Drinkard) Newsgroups: comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc Subject: SIO problems, need suggestion Date: 7 Oct 1996 14:49:25 -0400 Organization: Not very often Lines: 37 Message-ID: <53bjbl$cm@wa4phy.async.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: wa4phy.async.com Summary: Serial port (getty?) slows after few hours uptime. Keywords: async, sio, modem, serial X-Newsreader: NN version 6.5.0 Situation: 2.1.5-R, generic 386-sx clone, AST-4Port board, telebit trailblazer internal modem on IRQ3, AST board on IRQ9, IDE, older SVGA card, WD8003 on IRQ4. Both the telebit and AST board have 550AFN's on board. Problem: After running for anywhere from a 2-3 hours, up to maybe 16-18 hours, the i/o from /dev/tty2 (Boca modem on AST port 1) becomes unserviceable due to character i/o being slow to the point of not working. Example, after what problem is occuring, I issue command "cu -lcuaa2" and get a connect. I issue the command "at". Characters are not echoed after keypress, but only after the NEXT keypress, or a NL. The same thing occurs when I dial out, or dial in on that port, but instead of seeing input at "normal" rates, the characters are either slow, or the port hangs. Silo overflow reports occur on console. I'm still able to kill the getty associated with the port, and init restarts it, but the i/o is still screwed up. System worked flawlesly with 2.1.0-R for nearly a year, same configuration. This is primarily a mailbox, with minimal news, fed via uucp. Request: Share your thoughts on where the problem might be, or other insight as to what's happening.
