I'm using it to load BSD/OS 2.1 from a system disk that's on SCSI ID 9 on a wide SCSI adapter (BusLogic BT-958D) and it works fine. If you need to boot from a SCSI unit other than 0 (at least on the aha/bha bootstraps) you'll need the BIOS boots.
