The easiest way is to have X installed when you install everything
else.  On the 'Distributions' menu of the install program you can
select X-User, or X-Developer, or make a custom setup with just the
components you need.

When you have all the files in place the 'xf86config' program is quite
useful for guiding you through the process of configuring the X server
for your particular hardware.
