=I have only two IP connections to my box: a net card (lnc0) and the

=but my choice here).

Oops, I am afraid this is neccessary ;( I have this kind of setup
working perfectly at home -- ISP assigned me a 4bit subnet. But
at work, my employer has a LAN with private IP-addresses and I am
yet to succeed makeing the FreeBSD box with ethernet card and modem
a router -- modem and card have totally different IP-addresses.

=is the script that gets executed when the ip connection is lost. In my
=case, it shuts down any existing connection and then forces a redial.

You do not really need to shut down your existing connections --
if you get the same IP adress every time you redial most of your
connections would just resume working (like pulling and returning
the ethernet plug back).
