Linux is a damn-kernel by Linus (arrogant es everytime), developping a little bit like M$. BSD is a nice COMPLETE operating system, without hacks a la "svgalib"... I would prefer FreeBSD in every circumstance here. I am sure Linus will want cash when Linux will be used by more than 10% of PC users... And with Linux you'll always have this GPL thing, spreading like a virus over the net. You can't do anything usable with GPL apps. When I want to sell a system with a Unix as a server, this GPL thing always makes things complicated.
