Hello,

I've looked everywhere I know how for this answer, but no luck. FAQ's and
mailing list archives are a godsend, but not this time.

I've installed fbsd 2.1.5 and configured XFree86 3.1.2 from cdrom. I'm
using a #9 Motion 771, 2M VRAM, configured in /etc/XF86Config per all the
info available (see message from startx attached below for details; why is
my OS identified as FreeBSD 2.0.5?).

The problem: no text in the console or xterm windows!! I have a cursor that
moves with my mouse, and if I move to the console I can type commands that
get run (like exit) with no problem. I can see lines here and there that
indicate typing activity, but I can't see the actual text. If I click a
mouse button (any of the three), the familiar menus appear, complete with
text, but when I move the cursor down to any item, the text disappears for
that item.

What's going on?? Thanks in advance. Please email if you also post; the
mail server on campus is flaky with this newsgroup for some reason.
