Then, I can put the "mini-root" Yep, this can be done easily from SunOS or Solaris. I actually prefer to do it under Solaris as the parition editor is nicer in that you can specify partition sizes in Mb rather than having to work out beg/end cylinder points for each parition (risk of overlapping partitions if you're not careful). > partition onto an empty disk partition, and boot the mini-root, which > will then allow me to run the install script. The mini-root works fine from the swap parition (eg. sd0b), as long as you dd in single user mode when the swap space isn't being used. > My question is, where do I put the other NetBSD distribution files, and > how do I tell the install script where they are? My access to machines I set my partitions up as the following: paul@sparc4:~ % df -k Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on /dev/sd0a 31807 11522 18694 38% / /dev/sd0g 308798 188688 104670 64% /usr /dev/sd0h 96023 66078 20342 76% /other > for installation is limited, so I'd like to get the instructions as > clear as I can before I plunge in. I couldn't find this information in > the Sparc Installation instructions. I put all the NetBSD distrib files on /other, then when installing from the NetBSD script I chose to only install/mount / and /usr for the o/s, later on in the install script you can specify to install the rest of the distribution from a local disk, which you then specify as sd0h for example (the ufs filesystem used under SunOS/Solaris are compatible with NetBSD, although NetBSD can also use its own 4.4BSD (I think) enhanced filesystem type instead if you wish). -Paul- -- Paul Civati =O= Home: paul@xciv.org =O= http://www.xciv.org/ London UK =O= Home: paul@xciv.demon.co.uk =O= Slackware is.
