The ccd driver generates a virtual disk, consisting (unseen for the OS) of 2 "normal" disk partitions. For FreeBSD this ccd device is seen as ONE disk. So you have to construct a new filesystem on it. And you can't use one of these underlying partition as a "half disk"..... BTW, with IDE disks (wd*) I notice very large performance killing effects; I think the old IDE system was only able to "talk" to one disk at one time. You will notice this by watching the drive LEDs never being lit to- gether. So my ccd was slower than one IDE partition...
