Rwho shows who is logged in on the local network, rwhod is the system status server daemon that shares the info among the local machines for all this to work, and ruptime shows an uptime-like status for all the local machines. Below are complete instructions for obtaining, building and installing these tools: 1. Get rwho, rwhod & ruptime from an FTP site. For gatekeeper.dec.com, get the contents of the directories /.0/BSD/net2/usr.bin/rwho /.0/BSD/net2/usr.bin/rwall /.0/BSD/net2/usr.sbin/rwhod 2. Create the following directories: /usr/src/usr.bin/rwho /usr/src/usr.bin/rwall /usr/src/usr.sbin/rwhod and copy the contents of the corresponding directories from net2 into them. Decompress any files ending in .Z. 3. Cd to each directory in-turn and do a "make" and "make install" (and "make clean" if you'd like). rehash if you're a csh user. 4. mkdir /var/rwho 5. change the "rwhod" entry in /etc/netstart from NO to YES. 6. Reboot, or start rwhod by hand. You should probably read the manpages. If you have a large network the load and overhead can be a problem. -- -- Email info@NeoSoft.com for info on getting interactive Internet access. "Turn on your hot tub by email now. Ask me how."
